On the night of November 28, 1942 it was a very chilly night in Boston, but that didn’t turn away about a 1,000 partygoers from cramming into the Cocoanut Grove nightclub on Shawmut Street, many of them celebrating the first Holy Cross college football teams victory. By ten o clock, there were more then 1,000 people in the in the Broadway lounge alone on the first floor, at the basement level Melody Lounge it was overcrowded by 400 people. Little did this people know that less then an hour all there lives would be changed forever, simply by a busboy lighting a match to replace a light bulb would eventually result in 492 deaths and 166 injured.
