Time Value of Money Paper The purpose of this paper is to explain how annuities affect Time Value of Money (TVM) problems and investment outcomes. This paper will also discuss the impact of TVM on Interest rates and compounding, present value of a future payment received, future value of an investment, opportunity cost, and finally annuities and the Rule of �72. Time Value of Money is the concept that a dollar received now is going to be worth more than a dollar received far in the future (Albrecht, Stice, Stice, Swain, p 953). Money that is held today is worth more because it can be invested and interest will be earned. An interest rate is the cost stated as a percent of the amount borrowed per period of time (Get Objects, 2007). Compound interest is calculated each period on the original principal and all interest accumulated during past periods (Get Objects, 2007). Compound interest is basically interest earned on interest.
