Awakening Paper Relationships between people are profoundly complex, whether useful or not. In The Awakening, by Kate Chopin, there are many different, complicated relationships. Some of these represent power and its distribution, and some encompass personality. In order to fully understand Edna�s motives, we must fist untangle the immense web of social hierarchy and conflict. There are relationships (men vs. men, women vs. women, women vs. men) within the story, which reveal the power infrastructure of Creole society and the conflicts between norms and revolution. Once we understand the relationships between the more central characters, we will better sympathize with Edna�s revolutionary action.
