NECROSIS The spinal cord injury begins with a sudden, traumatic blow to the T10 and T11, by mechanical laceration. Neurons and axons at the injury site explode due to mechanical insult. Axons are cut off or damaged beyond repair, and neural cell membranes are broken. With necrosis, the cells bursts open pouring the contents of the cell into extracellular space. This is a problem because what is inside a cell is toxic to other cells. The contents of the necrotic cell may cause other cells to burst as well.
