Frankenstein-Isolation Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
In Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein is a man, obsessed with anatomy and science, who constructs a living human body out of corpses. The human body that he creates, unfortunately, results to be a grotesque monster. Victor fears and abandons the monster leaving it to survive alone. The Monster knows nothing at all, not even how to speak. Every other human he encounters runs in fear. The Monster is alone, and isolated from the world, just as Victor is. The idea of isolation is shown many times in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein through the three characters Victor, The Monster, and Robert Walton.
Victor is introduced in the novel as a man in search for knowledge. He becomes obsessed with the “secret of life” and discovers it by creating a grotesque replica of the human body and bringing it to life. Ashamed of what he has created, disowns his creation and hides his involvement from everyone he knows. By holding this secret, Victor spirals into a world of isolation. He still communicates with his family and friends, but only at a distance as to not inform them of his secret. ......
