?Essay ?Discuss the key battles of the Civil War, explaining why a particular battle was considered important. ? There were many battles of the Civil War but the Key Battles not only determined the conditions of the War but also the outcome. The war began with the Confederate attack of Fort Sumter; though no one was killed- it became a precedent to future battles. Then there was the battle if Antietam and it was the bloodiest day in American history. Finally the Battle of Gettysburg and Vicksburg were the turning points of the war and happened almost simultaneously. Without these particular battles the war probably would have turned out differently. The Battle of Fort Sumter was the first battle of the Civil War, occurring on April 12, 1861. He main discrepancy was about the Federal forts in the South. Lincoln ordered a naval force to Fort Sumter to send �provisions,� but the Confederates did not see them as such. The South Carolinians shot cannons at the fort, and bombarded the fort for 34 hours until the garrison surrendered. This battle was considered important becaus......
