French Revoloution Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Have you heard of the tennis court oath? Considering the letter you wrote me I assume not. Well, the tennis court oath was a pledge signed by five hundred and seventy-seven members of France’s third estate. They called themselves the national assembly. The reason they resided in a tennis court was because king Louis the XVI had locked their usual meeting place like his grandfather did years earlier. The oath stated that they would never separate no matter the circumstances. On July 14, 1789 the Bastille was stormed for refuge of ammunition, weapons, and because there were rumors of the king intending to suppress the national assembly. The king’s men consisted of mainly foreigners this was because they had no ties with France and were more loyal to the king. The army of French revolutionaries defeated the king’s men and began to destroy the Bastille piece by piece. Another event that contributed to the revolution was the debt that king Louis XVI put France in. One way he did this was by making the cones of Cherbourg.
