Emily Dickenson Many believe Emily Dickenson was a bit mad. Some call her a literature genius. It depends however in the way you look at it. Through Emily’s eyes, isolation and solitude was one of the best ways to spend your time. To Emily, one could connect with ones surroundings in a way unfathomable to modern day Americans. Through her years Emily wrote poems demonstrating her point of view. “I heard a fly buzz- when I died” ,“Because I could not stop for Death”, and “The soul selects her own society”, are all perfect examples of Dickenson’s outlook on life, and death for that matter. Emily is still to this day set aside for her unique writing styles. In her time Emily was a pioneer of poetry! In her work “I heard a Fly Buzz- When I died-“, Dickenson uses symbolism to show her contrasting views on life and death. For example, when she speaks of the buzzing fly, she could be referencing to the fact that life is taxiing, troublesome, and sometimes even annoying.
