In Phillip Gwynne’s novel, “Deadly Unna?” the main character, Blacky always thought of aboriginals as the kids who just played in his football in his local team and didn’t want to mix with the “Goonyas”. Throughout the progression of the book, Gary Black learns many things and changes in many ways. Gary begins to develop a tolerance of the Aboriginal people and their culture, and then further attempting to apply it to the intolerant town in which he lives.
Gary’s first impression of aboriginals was that they only really liked to mix with themselves and to play football at the Port cause there was nowhere else to play. The aboriginals always wanted to keep away from the white people. This was always the case especially in the changes rooms where the whites and the aboriginals got changed on opposite sides of the rooms. Even when the aboriginals played football they would sometimes only pass it to themselves sort of like playing keepings off. Between the two separate towns each community lived separate lives and there was a lot of hate between both towns and the white people never ......
