Coursework Comparing and Contrasting 15th December 06 The two poems we studied were Dulce et Decorum est written by Wilfred Owen and Charge of the Light Brigade by Lord A Tennyson a poet laureate. In dulce� this poem emphasises the horror, death and destruction set in World War One. In the Charge of the Light Brigade it celebrates the heroism of the soldiers this was written about the Cimmerian war in the 1800s. Owen wrote from experience he was a captain in the British army this means it adds an element of realism to the poem. Charge of the light brigade was written about what people at home were hearing on the radio and Newspaper. Also because he was the queens poet it had to be very patriotic. This adds more of an element of pointing out bravery more than saying what mistakes they made. Dulce et Decorum est is a poem which is very realistic. Owen wrote very realistically and emotionally about war because he didn�t in lying, also he had had first hand experience at war and wanted to convey the reality to the reader. In line one of the poem he says �......
