Some of the reasons to learn logical fallacies are that once an error has been made in reasoning, a name can be given to that error. In brief, a fallacy is a technical flaw which makes an argument unsound or invalid (Mathew, 2005). Furthermore, and maybe more importantly, pointing out a logical fallacy is a way of removing an argument from the debate rather than just weakening the case. If one can show that the original argument actually commits a logical fallacy, the opposition is placed in position of justifying why the original argument should be considered at all. In addition, a fallacious argument is the one that fools human reasoning, but is not logically valid (Thompson, 2005). It is crucial to remember that reasoning from definitions and facts to conclusions is fundamentally different from reasoning about definitions.
