We live in One World, we share one earth, one atmosphere, one economy and most importantly we live with one dominate political ideology; Nationalism. The proliferation of Nationalism since the late 18th century has led to both progress and pitfalls regarding the welfare of humanity. Nations such as the United States and France came into being though internal revolutions, while nations such as India and the Democratic Republic of Congo were formed entirely by their colonial masters. Once nationalism became universal a person could no longer be without some connection to a particular nation; the importance of national identity was born. While territorial distinctions based on ethnic or religious had been fairly common since the advent of civilization, the idea of national identity along with national borders has created new conditions for humanity. The ideas of sovereignty and self determination were also introduced as key tenants of nationalism. Nationalism forced governments to be responsible for there own successes and failures.
