Throughout history man through his social institutions has been engaged in a never-ending state of conflict. While we can point towards progress in areas such as human rights and rules of war, there is nonetheless a prevalent state of war from which we cannot escape. Although some might attest to the current state of �Pax Americana� this stability does not fulfill the requirements that of what Kant calls �perpetual peace�. Often popularly regarded as an idealistic contemporary idea, �perpetual peace� (or world peace) is a relatively simple idea that would be easily attainable given certain conditions. It is these condition that Kant and later Rawls devise in their works �Perpetual Peace� and �The Law of Peoples�. In the creating a code for �perpetual peace�, Kant devises an elaborate set of rules from which nations are to adhere to. Firstly, Kant introduces six preliminary articles by which individual nations must incorporate to maintain perpetual peace.
