The Effects of Today�s Teen Smokers A cigarette is a tobacco product that is manufactured out of cured and finely cut tobacco leaves, which is rolled or stuffed into a paper-wrapped cylinder cigarette, is ignited at one end, and allowed to smolder for the purpose of inhalation of its smoke from the other end, which goes in the mouth (Mitchell 21). There are numerous causes and effects of smoking that seriously impacts the lives of teens. Presently, the average age for smoking is at its all-time lowest, fourteen and a half (23). The reasons for this dramatic decrease are caused by today�s advertising, celebrities, peers, siblings, and unknown risks. Most teens start in their four years of high school and continue because they cannot stop (21). The worst time to start smoking is in the early years of a person�s life, middle school through high school. Three million teens under the age of eighteen smoke (Goldberg 72).
