Abuse, the act of inflicting or allowing infliction of physical or emotional maltreatment or injury upon a child occurs more frequently than anyone would like to admit. Abuse occurs when an adult misuses their influence. Children create many unique coping mechanisms while existing in cruel situations. In most cases, some type of dysfunction continues throughout life. The worst type of insult, a slap in the face befalls Owen and illustrates just one example of the ill-treatment handed out by Momma in Throw Momma from the Train. Owen, a product of his Mother’s exploitation and emotionally unstable environment, unwittingly becomes a muse for Larry, an author with writer’s block. One can deduce from the first scene with Owen and his Momma that a dysfunctional relationship exists. Momma screams at Owen, “Get me a soda with some ice in it, hurry-up chop-chop.” Owen continues typing while she belligerently yells, “You’re writing a letter, you want them to take me away.” Owen replies, “Owen loves his Momma.” In a childish, taunting, singsong voice, she jeers, “Owen loves h......
