The Euro Currency Market On January 1, 2002, the members of the European Union put into circulation a common currency called the �Euro.� The Euro currency was adopted as currency in participating countries. European Union (EU) countries that participate in the use of the Euro are Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Finland, and the Netherlands. The United Kingdom and Denmark have obtained special status in the EU to allow those countries to decide when and if they will adopt the currency. Other EU countries are in the process of meeting the criteria set for participation and will adopt the Euro in the future (The European Union, 2007). Use of the Euro has extended outside the EU to French overseas departments in Guadalupe, French Guyana, Martinique, Reunion, Madeira, and the Canary Islands. Countries outside the EU have also adopted the Euro as the national, official, or de facto currency. These countries include the Vatican City, Monaco, San Marino, Saint-Pierre-Miquelon, Mayotte, Andorra, Kosovo, and Montenegro. ......
