Comparing and contrasting the theme of loss of identity in ‘I am not that women’ and ‘Search for my tongue’ In these two poems the theme of loss of identity is strong. The losses aren’t as blunt as the person losing their identity, but gradual losses that link to the loss of identity. The losses in the poems are different because in ‘I am not that woman’, written by Kishwar Naheed, the woman suffers because she is being forced to become like all of the other women in normal society and she is trying to break out, to be individual. As a result she has been forced to make sacrifices that result in a loss of identity. In ‘Search for my tongue’ (written by Sujata Bhatt) the woman has a loss that separates herself from no-one but herself and not the outside world. ‘I am not that woman’ is about a woman who is speaking against society and an argument could be made that it is men or a particular man. Kishwar Naheed is a feminist poet and this is shown in the title, as it shows that she is not a stereotypical woman. This links with the title of this essay as the poem illustrates that ......
