Horatio didn’t believe that Marcellus had seen a ghost; therefore, when the ghost appeared Marcellus mockingly tells Horatio to speak to it since Horatio hadn’t believed him. 2. The apparition at night foreshadows the tone of death reiterated throughout the play. 3. Fortinbras needed to be killed, for he wanted to gain power and land during a time when Denmark was in disorder. In order to protect the kingdom from his attempts of taking over, King Hamlet had him killed. Now, King Hamlet is appearing as a ghost because he is unsettled by these wars between Denmark and Norway. 4. According to Renaissance superstition, when a person of power dies, it leaves the world in chaos, and the heavens and earth collide. The guards felt that the death of King Hamlet has caused some supernatural conflict, which is why his ghost is appearing. 5. The King explains the reasoning behind marrying the queen, and despite their sadness over King Hamlet’s death; they needed to marry in order to save the country while it was in a war like state. Then he went on to explain ......
