The Speckled Band. This is a story about a woman called Helen Stoner that needs answers to her sister’s mysterious death 2 years ago, so she goes to a famous detective in the 1800’s called Sherlock Holmes, to ask him to investigate about the situation. This story builds suspense because the readers also don't know what has happened so we are in Helens position. Helen explains to Holmes that her sister’s death was very mysterious and there was no answer to what happened that night. The climax to the story is Dr Roylott’s at the end, he is the stepfather of Helen and her sister Julia, who died. The structure of the story starts off with Holmes meeting Helen. From looking at her appearance, describes what she looks/feels like and how she got there. He notices she came on the train because he says, “ the second half of a return tickets in the palm of your left glove. You must have started early, and yet you had a good drive in a dog-cart”. He knows this because he then says, “ the left arm of your jacket is splattered with mud in no less than seven places”. Helen explains to......
