A sense of heaviness befalls a man’s heart when the terrible fate of being astray in the dark woods arises. A fear begins to take over him as mighty trees spring from the ground and extend deep into the skies with harsh disapproving faces. Their branches leap and whip the man’s face as he walks deeper into the woods. His fear turns to alarm as no clear path is found to follow. This dread of fear has halted and continues to halt many men from action and force them to trail the easier avenue, the one most traveled by humankind, the one already laid out. Ursula K Le Guin’s “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” exposes a similar idea. The story is undeniably a compelling comment on human society given that it concerns with the issue of society’s conformity and inhumanity. In Le Guin’s narrative, the people of Omelas can choose to walk the most traveled course by accepting the already laid out inhumanity or the one walked by few by reflecting over morality. “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” is not a story to be taken literally because in fact it is a parable dealing with moral decisio......
