Martin Luther has to be one of the most influential people in modern history. His ideas helped to revolutionised modern society. His simple act of speaking out against the church changed millions of people’s opinions about life. Before Luther there was the belief that God put us on the earth, if you were a peasant we were meant to be a peasant for the rest of your life because God willed it. But after Luther, people changed their beliefs from this to something more like “I can be more than just a peasant” and people did this. Without Martin Luther’s guidance it is possible that everybody today would be doing the bare minimum and not trying to excel. Strange as it may seem the man who invented the printing press, Johannes Gutenberg, is connected to Luther. After Luther’s act against the church, Gutenburg’s printing press was probably singularly responsible for keeping Luther’s ideas the same and allowing them to be easily spread throughout Europe.
