Glue is defined as a "gel-like adhesive substance used to form a surface attachment between different materials." ( 1 ) Super Glue, however, is in a completely different category than plain white Elmer's glue. It is made of of what is called cyanoacrylate, which is a synthetic polymer. A polymer is a complex molecule made up of smaller, simpler molecules that attach to form repeating structural units. ( 2 ) Super Glue has played an important role in our society, being used by many people to fix a broken family heirloom or to teach a six year old that glue does not belong on fingers. Super Glue is a cyanoacrylate glue, which is one of the strongest glues in modern society. It's made of synthetic polymers and once a polymeric reaction has been started, it can be very difficult to stop. Polymers are not completely understood, however. Most other plain glues work on a "hook and eye" principle; the glue forms into small hooks and eyes that grab onto each other, kind of like velcro.
