National Culture and Corporate Culture Definition There are different views on the concept of national culture. We will stop on Hofstede�s definition who describes culture as �mental programming�, �software of the mind�, and sees national culture as a �common component� of a wider culture, formed both of global and sub-national parts. According to Hofstede �the collective programming which I call culture should be seen as a collective component shared in the minds of otherwise different individuals and absent in the minds of individuals belonging to a different society.� Also, Hofstede identifies six cultural variables that are relevant when analyzing a national culture: individualism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity and time horizon. Related to corporate culture, there are also several views and definitions on this concept. One of the most relevant definitions is Becker�s: corporate culture is a �system of shared meaning held by members that distinguishes organization from other organizations�.
