1) Introduction to Cultural Globalization Cultural globalization refers in essence to the growth in international exchange of cultural goods, services and practices since the 1970s. This is the best definition agreed on by our group, but by no means the exact definition since there are as many definitions of globalization as there are scholars who write about it. There is also considerable discussion as to whether globalization is a recent phenomenon (the last two or three decades) or if it has merely been named and redefined since the 16th century. However, we can safely say that the cultural aspect of globalization started in the 1970s in view of how new technologies such as satellite television, commercial air travel, mass telecommunications and the Internet have paved the way for billions worldwide to consume identical cultural products like pop music as well as employ cultural practices like the preparation of foreign food.
