The Killer Angels, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Shaara, tells the story of the Civil War. More specifically, The Killer Angels gives a vivid overview of the Battle of Gettysburg. The book takes place from June 29 through July 3 of 1863 in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Michael Shaara tells the story of Gettysburg from two viewpoints�the Union and the Confederate. As the book progresses the chapters alternate as to whose viewpoint is being stated. Killer Angels is centered on the factually based commanders of the Army of Northern Virginia (Confederate) and the Army of the Potomac (Union). The story begins with a Confederate spy who spots the Union army very close to the Confederate army. The spy tells General Longstreet who evaluates the validity of the spy�s statements and proceeds to tell General Lee, the commanding officer. Longstreet wants to try and cut off the Union army from their capital but Lee doesn�t like fighting defensively.
