Once Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru said that if one has to look at the condition of a nation the status of women is very important. Former U.N Secretary general of United Nations, Kofi Annan said 'Gender equality is more than a goal in itself. It is a precondition for meeting the challenge of poverty, promoting sustainable development and building good governance.' In India and across the globe the majority of population consists of females but the representation of women in politics, business or even sports in the 21st century is below satisfactory. In politics in India the representation is negligible and below 10 %. Woman since the beginning of civilization has been regarded as a commodity and object of enjoyment. She has struggled to achieve a respectable name for her in the society. She is often subjected to physical abuse and mental torture and is treated as a person who is only capable of reproducing.
