Shattered Hopes and Unreachable Dreams In Steinbeck�s Of Mice and Men, many characters have dreams that are unfulfilled. George and Lennie have a dream planned out for their future. They want to own their own land and be masters of their own lives. Candy decides that his future depends on George and Lennie�s dream. He sets a goal for himself to be a helper on George and Lennie�s farm. Curley�s wife dreams to be a movie star, but that dream is not fulfilled as she marries Curley and is stuck with him on the ranch. These characters� dreams get crushed in some way and though they want their dreams and wishes to come true, their destiny proves otherwise. George and Lennie imagine their dream farm complete with chickens, pigs, cows, and rabbits. They believe they will be able to earn enough money and own 10 acres of land. �We got a future� and we�re gonna have a little house an� a cow and some pigs� we�re gonna have a big vegetable patch and a rabbit hutch an� chickens � (Steinbeck 14).
