Scott Hastings represents the youthful individual caught in a struggle against the force of tradition represented by Barry Fife. How are these two characters, and the views and values they uphold, established by the film. 657 words In Strictly Ballroom Scott Hastings and Barry Fife are used to represent the central ‘David and Goliath’ theme. Throughout the film Baz Luhrmann establishes the beliefs and ethics of these two characters using various film techniques such as camera angles and shots, as well as costume and make-up. These film techniques are contrasting when compared, which, in turn, emphasises their views and values all the more. Scott Hastings beliefs and opinions are denoted using fundamental film techniques such as camera angles, shots and lighting. Throughout Strictly Ballroom the audience is positioned to like and relate to Scott due to his newly acquired carefree attitude.
