Cyberspace is the metaphorical space of computer systems and networks, in which electronic data is stored and online communication takes place. The term originates in science fiction, where it also includes various kinds of virtual reality experienced by deeply immersed computer users or by entities who actually inhere inside computer systems.
Origin of the term
The word "cyberspace" was coined by the science fiction author William Gibson, when he sought a name to describe his vision of a global computer network, linking all people, machines and sources of information in the world, and through which one could move or "navigate" as through a virtual space.
Metaphorical
The term Cyberspace started to become a de facto synonym for the Internet, and later the World Wide Web, during the 1990s, especially in academic circles and activist communities. Then later on it became synonym for e-commerce.
