The cotton cultivation covers 2.5% (nearly 33 million hectors) of all cultivable land in 82 countries. Among all Pakistan is the fifth largest producer of cotton in the world, the fourth largest consumer of cotton, the third largest exporter of raw cotton, and the largest exporter of cotton yarn. About 1.3 million farmers, out of total 5 million, cultivate cotton over 3 million hectares, covering 15% of the cultivable are of country. Cotton and its related products contributes about 10% of the country�s GDP and more than 60 to 70 percent of Pakistan's foreign exchange rests upon the exports of cotton and its related products.
