Theodore Roosevelt is often said to be the most active of all the American presidents, and was at once a realist and a romanticist in foreign affairs and a progressive in domestic policy. He was also an eager supporter of independence and a skillful moralist. Born in New York City, Roosevelt graduated from Harvard in 1880. He emerged as the leader of reform Republicans in the New York State Assembly in the early 1880s. Following that, he pushed useful reforms as head of the U.S. Civil Service Commission from 1889 through 1895, president of the New York City police commission from1895 thru1897, assistant secretary of the navy form1897 to1898, and governor of New York form1899 only until the1900�s. He energetically advocated war against Spain in 1898 and then performed heroically in Cuba as colonel of a volunteer cavalry unit, the �Rough Riders.� The correct name is The United States Volunteer Cavalry, which was the first in the United States......
