Love Is Blind - Love Themes in Shakespeare Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Many of Shakespeare’s works revolve around the theme of love. Shakespeare did not always approach love in the same way. He wrote on different kinds of love and different ways that people do love. In some cases he represented love solely by the beauty of another. In sonnets 18 and 130 the poet describes the one he loves. Both sonnets are similar, yet both differ in many ways. Shakespeare shows that even though beauty can be different it is still beauty in eye of love. Sonnet 18 the poet describes the one he loves in the utmost manner. He states that this person is lovelier and more temperate than a summer’s day. This poem focuses on their beauty and how it compares to nature. In lines 3-7 the poet speaks of how the beauties of summer do not last long enough and everything that is beautiful fades over time. The poem starts in a somewhat happy mood, but then in it begins to have a sad tone and talking of how all beauties die. In lines 8-9 Shakespeare writes, “By chance or nature’s changing course untrimmed. But thy eternal summer shall not fade”. (737) The poem now become......
