They found that �a better understanding of the nature and process through which families take an active part in their own health can serve as the basis for designing and linking health interventions with public health programs�. This paper will look at the importance of the family in the health of society and how the family works as a system in promoting the health of its members. It will also review a particular concept of family used in a practice setting and will endeavor to evaluate the usefulness of the concept to the nursing practice in that setting.
