Julius Caesar made incredible contributions to his country and was well liked. He once said �I would rather be first in a little Iberian village than second in Rome.� Julius Caesar meant what he said and proves it throughout his lifetime. Gaius Julius Caesar was born in 102 BCE from parents Aurelia and Gaius Julius Caesar, a praetor. A praetor is a Roman magistrate, responsible for the administration of justice. When he was born, the leading man in Rome was Caius Marius. Marius was married to a sister of Caesar�s father. In 85 BCE his father died and Julius married a wealthy young woman named Cossutia. Their marriage did not last long and when Julius was at the mere age of 18 he wedded Cornelia. Cornelia later gave birth to his only legitimate child, a daughter named Julia.
