Compair and contrast the accounts of William Bradford and John Smith Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the narratives “Of Plymouth Plantation” by William Bradford and “The General History of Virginia” by John Smith, Bradford and Smith both travel to the New World with very specific, yet extremely different purposes. Bradford wants to build a predominantly religious settlement, whereas Smith wants to build a colony based around economy. They’re writings are also intended for completely different audiences. Along with them, they bring nearly a complete opposite set of views and a tremendous amount of determination to overcome the hardships they would face. To begin with, Smith's main purpose was to bring all sorts of people to the new world. He wrote a pamphlet to the citizens of England about describing how great everything in New England was. In this pamphlet, Smith aims primarily at persuading people to join him in the new land. He promises that New England is much better than England.
