Relationship of Glucose and Protein in Cellular Metabolism of Yeast Cells Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Protein and glucose were tested to see which was better at increasing the cellular metabolism in yeast cells. A spectrophotometer was used to find the absorbance of the solution and then density was calculated. Our results over an hour time period indicated that the protein was a better way to metabolize yeast cells at room temperature and in normal light. Also, cellular respiration was looked at as well. It was found that the protein was better at cellular respiration than just having glucose with the yeast cells. So by these results it can be concluded, in our case, that protein is better at cellular metabolism and cellular respiration in yeast cells than glucose in yeast cells. Yeast cells can metabolize quickly and then the density can be calculated thus showing how many yeast cells were metabolized. This is done using a spectrophotometer set at 600nm. Protein and glucose were used as a type of food for the yeast to use to metabolize the yeast cells. The reason that protein was used was due to the fact that protein helps build muscle in humans. Also respiration was look......
