Alexander the Great went through many hardships during his life. Alexander had to follow in his father’s footsteps by becoming king and ruling his vast empire at age 20. Alexander had to grow up during a war. At age 20 he had to go to war with his father’s enemies. He had to lead soldiers into battle time after time, sometimes to there death. After he conquered all the other countries, he had to govern all of them. Alexander had to go through wars when he was a child, had to be king at age twenty, and conquered Greece and many others.
Alexander the Great was born in the year 356 B.C., during the “holy wars.” The conflict was about who should control Delphi. Delphi was a town on the side of a mountain called Parnassus, which was in central Greece. While the sacred war was going on, Alexander was growing up and learning about his world. Alexander’s mother, Queen Olympias, was a kind of person known as a mystic.
