Hip Hop: The Cruel Depiction of Women Throughout history music has been an integral part of our American society. From our early start with Louis Armstrong and his trumpet to Buddy rich and his flamboyant sticks on the drums. We also had contemporary music such as Bluegrass Country and the Rhythm and Blues. American society has now moved to this “thing” called hip hop. This new style of music, if we can even call it that, has disgraced America. It has disgraced us in not only the style of music but in its’ depiction of women. American hip hop has slammed into today’s culture so quickly and popularly that listeners, especially young men and women, do not care about how the lyrics of these songs, and the music videos that these songs are put too, actually depict women. Many songs and videos in today’s world promote extremely negative images and ideas about women. All women and young women alike, unfortunately mostly African-American women, are depicted solely as sex objects.
