It is very important that children learn to be independent and also at the same time to share in a group and be and active , responsible participant. It is important to acknowledge when you child is learning about themselves and it is important that the child is being acknowledged and encouraged. Comer and Poussant said " when your baby makes reasonably attempts to feed himself, encourage it. Not only does this support a feeling of independence but it also permits him to develope greater skill in using his hand. (gonzalez p70) I do agree with that statement, but at the same time a child should learn tht they may feed themselves just as long as they remember to do it neatly and learn to clean up behind themselves as well. There are a lot of programs that are collativist in which the child is part of a group, but still encourages them to be there own indiviualist, the two goes hand in hand.
