Elderly Disorders The elderly are considered among person age 65 and older. The elderly are more likely to getting sick and being injured than younger persons. Not only do the elderly more likely for sickness and injury, but also more likely to gain stress. They can become so stressed that they develop disorders. Some disorders are depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and psychotic disorders. �Depression is one of the most common mental health problems of older adults� (Comer 451). Depression is the same in younger adults as it is in the elderly. Depression is �a low state marked by significant levels of sadness, lack of energy, low self-worth, guilt, or related symptoms� (Comer G-2). However, depression in the elderly is more severe than in other adults because they are more likely to become sick. They are also more likely to commit suicide. �Elderly white men are at greatest risk, with suicide rates in people age�s 80 to 84 more than twice that of the general population� (Healthy).
