The Family The family is a social institution that affects all our lives on a significant personal level; it is divided in the modern social world into the private and the public by sociologists. The family can be defined as a group of people who are related by blood, marriage, or adoption. The family unit is portrayed as a man and women who are married and have one or more children, where the mother stays at home looking after the children, taking them to school and maintaining the basic household functions as where the father goes out to work and is the main provider of the family. This essay will therefore question whether this family unit it a positive or a negative thing by looking at consensus and the conflict views of the family? The consensus view of the family is seen by most as a positive in society and without it there would be no culture, morals of values therefore society as a whole would fall apart. This is because without the traditional family unit; where children and adults learn certain moral values that are continually reinforced throughout their lives......
