His stories are read by a variety of people such as children, psychoanalyst and film makers. He contributed greatly to the horror and science fiction genre. His works often have images of gore, violence death and demoniac behavior. His background ties in within the aspects of the works he writes. The tragedies and suffering of a young writer paved the way for a questionable but ingenious author who dared to delve within the mind of a human psyche. Edgar Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. His parents, Elizabeth Hopkins and David Poe, were both actors. He had a brother named William Henry and a sister named Rosalie. Edgar Poe�s parents both died when he was younger than three years old. He was then taken in by a foster family who were Richmond merchants. His siblings were cared for by others.
