Gary Bell English 1010 September 21, 2007 A Rose for Emily A Rose for Emily, written by William Faulkner, presents the reader with an older woman that in a sense has beat down her life. This story actually talks about the symbolisms of love and tragedy and the fear of being alone by herself and what she does to secure herself to face loneliness. Emily was a very strange and a unique woman who did some bizarre things to have a companion with whom she thought was the one for her so she would not be alone in this world. The symbolism in “A Rose for Emily” is unique. The murder was an escape from the sad and lonely life Emily lived. I think that the rose is a symbol of how the life of Emily was committed such a crime should be taken into consideration. In Emily’s case, she was so afraid of Homer abandoning her and her being alone again that she prefers to kill him and keep his body. In this story, Emily’s mentality was dramatically affected by the society in which she lived. The death of Homer can be seen as a symbolist view for the conservative society in which Emily lived.......
