Nichole Howe Research Paper Biology October 29, 2007 Jellyfish Jellyfish inhabit every major ocean of the world and they are cable to withstand a wide range of temperatures and salinities. They have been around for over six hundred and fifty million years, which is prior to the dinosaurs. The jellyfish�s life span is between six months and a year. They are one of the great predators of the ocean, even though their bodies are made up of almost 90% to 94% water. The other 5% is split 3% of it being salt and the other 2% containing protein. They travel groups called a �smack�; these may contain hundreds to thousands of jellyfish. Jellyfish have two different body forms. The first stage is the polyp stage which is a free floating configuration. The second is the medusa stage where they have the radial symmetry and the umbrella shaped body called the bell. They are a marine invertebrate belonging to the Scyphozoan class within the Cnidarians phylum.
