Divorce, Death, and Disaster Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Children are forced to go through different forms of separation throughout their lives. These sudden changes are not a natural process for them and can cause changes or set backs in their development. As teachers, we must be aware of the children’s reactions and what they will go through after the separation. The three forms I have researched are divorce, death, and disaster.
Divorce is becoming a common issue for children to be required to deal with, but it is not a natural process for them to have to go through. Many parents and teachers worry about the effects the divorce will have on the children. “For Better or for Worse: Divorce Reconsidered” authors Hetherington and Kelly say that 75% do not end up having serious psychological, social, or academic problems, but 25% do. That 25% is the main focus of my research. Hetherington is a research psychologist and who follows divorced families for ten years or more.
