Roy Lichtenstein Pop art emerged in England around the mid 1950�s, and soon after in America. It continued to develop in both countries through the 1960�s. The pop artists of this movement shared an interest in popular culture. They borrowed images and objects from everyday life including the media, pulp fiction, comic books and even grocery items. Although pop art was an international movement its imagery had a very American style. After the war years pop artists used American culture predominantly in their works. The pop artists worked in highly individual styles and in a variety of art forms. Many of them adopted commercial methods of production, such as silk screen printing, to produce multiple images. While some artists of the pop art movement celebrated popular culture others used it to give their art a sarcastic and critical look. Roy Lichtenstein was born on 27th October 1923.
