March 13, 2006 Case Study #1 Two effective scheduling tools that are used in the workforce for project management are: Gantt Charts and PERT Networks. These tools when used efficiently can effectively reduce time and increase project awareness and productivity. The following paragraphs will provide the reader with the definitions of the Gantt Chart and PERT Networks. Two real life examples one of each tool will also be given to provide the value of its use and necessity toward the completion and success of a project. According to Schwalbe, K. (2003) a Gantt chart is a format for displaying required tasks in a project schedule by listing those activities and their corresponding start and finish dates in a calendar format. Creating a visible time-line for viewing each individual task and its designated completion and function to the overall project. Start and finish dates and times are linked together to show the processes required to complete the task at any given time throughout the length of the project.
