I recall being in third grade when my teacher told us, �Islam is not just a religion, it is a way of life.� I started to ponder to see if I could find a clearer explanation to that sentence. The next minute though I was back to having conversations with friends and thinking about when recess would be. It wasn�t long until that popped up in my mind again. Islam has always been all around me. At the age of 5, my mom hired a teacher who would come to our house to teach me and my sister how to read the Quran. At 8, I learned how to pray fully by myself, bowing my head down to the Lord gave me a different complete feeling even at a young age. I caught on fast because of the excitement in me but never followed with the five prayers of the day. I remember praying after a whole month or so and not being able to because I had forgotten how to. Being in an American country has definitely affected my understanding of my faith, I know I appreciate my religion more than anything.
