Each analysis of the cash flow is accompanied by the theory and the advantages and disadvantages of the method. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) 1 Internal Rate of Return is the discount rate that results in a Net Present Value of zero of a series of cash flows. A project with required rate of return equalling IRR will provide no additional value to the company as a result of undertaking the project. Since, IRR is the rate needed to break-even from a given project. An investment earning a greater return than the IRR will result in a positive net present value; as a result it would add additional value to the company. An investment with a high IRR will provide a greater opportunity for the firm to recover its initial investment, as well as generate additional value than a project that has a low IRR.
