Summary of the Roman Civilization Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Roman civilization were the first people to grow to such large proportions and spread out over a large region. Their origins are dated to 753 B.C.E as small tribes occupying the seven hills. They may have derived from a group of people known as the Etruscans. Their first form of government was that of a monarchy but their first major form of government was the Republic which began in 509 B.C.E. The Romans were pragmatic people and whose lifestyles were heavily influenced by the Greeks. They are known for their architecture, art, gladiators, law, administration, communications, and ingenuity. People still marvel over structures such as the Coliseum, the Pantheon, and the Aqueduct known as Pont De Gard. The Roman Republic lasted until 27 B.C.E and then gave way to the Roman Empire. Arguably the most remembered Romans were Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, Mark Antony, and Augustus (Octavian). The early Romans began establishing dominance by defeating the Alban tribe.
